European Dragons and Chinese Dragons



Dragons are mystical and mysterious creatures. They are powerful. 

The main question is do you belief their existence?

A Dragon is a legendary creature that has different features in the myths or believes of many cultures. Dragons are representative of the primal forces of nature, religious and the universe.

There are two distinct types of dragons – European Dragon and Chinese Dragon

European Dragon is typically depicted as huge fire breathing, scaly lizard like body with four muscular lizard type legs, a pair of leathery bat type wings growing from its back and a long prehensile tail. In western culture, dragons usually portrayed as evil until modern days where dragons became modern fantasy. 

The typical dragon hides in their cave or is used to protect a castle filled with gold and treasure. It is often associated with a great hero slaying the evil dragon. There are some dragons said to breathe fire or are poisonous. European Dragons are commonly said to possess magical powers or supernatural powers. 

The blood of a slain dragon has either beneficial effect that has the power render an invincible skin or armour or harmful effect that act as poison that kills people with just only a drip of it



Chinese Dragons typically portrayed as long, scaled, serpentine creatures with four legs.Chinese Dragons are associated to loyalty and are used as symbol by the emperors that represents power, strength and good luck.


The people drew and painted the dragon according the many creatures – horse, snake, camel, clam, eagle, tiger, fish, rabbit and bull.

It has the head of a camel, horns of a deer, eyes of a rabbit, scales of a carp, paws of a tiger, and claws of an eagle. Besides, it has whiskers, a bright jewel under its chin, which enables it to fly to Heaven.






There are many Chinese Dragons and there are few commonly known ones.

The Celestial Dragon (天龙)

The Celestial Dragons protect the heaven, where gods live and it is the ruler of all dragons.
Celestial Dragons have 5 claws while the other dragons have only 3 or 4 claws.

The Spiritual Dragon (神龙)

The Spiritual Dragons control the rain and the wind

The Earth Dragons (地龙)

The Earth Dragons control the river in the water from a palace far below the surface.

The Underworld Dragon

The Underworld Dragons guard precious metals and gems buried in the Earth.
